To all students in grades 5,6,7, and 8:

This is week 4 of your remote distance learning.  I know this has been very challenging for you and it is also very challenging for all of the teachers. We are all waiting for a decision to be made as to when or if we will return to school.   Keeping that in mind, I am finding it necessary to change some of the ways in which your work is being returned to me. 

I will continue to post classwork and homework on Monday and Wednesday. However, beginning today, April 20, I am asking that you adhere to the due date that I post.  I will not go back over several weeks to check if you returned your work. If the work is not there by the due date, your grade will be a zero. 

I will continue to have 10-15 minute Google Meet Sessions at your designated time, if you are able to join in. This will be your opportunity to ask questions about the work. At times, I will continue to post notes for you in Google Classroom. Print  these notes out and put them into your notebook. This will help you. 

My grades will continue to be posted on OptionC so that you and your parents are aware of your grades. As always, if there are any extenuating circumstances, please private message me or have your parents email me.

As we continue to be journalists, your assignment this week has to do with what people think about EMOJIS.

Your task is:

 

  1. Read both articles that are attached in google classroom.  
  2. As a journalist, what is your stance on using emojis as a  “reporter”
  3. Research on the internet the advantages and disadvantages of using emojis.
  4. Interview 3 different people and get their intake on using or not using emojis.  What are their thoughts on it? Why are they for it? Why are they against it?
  5. After you have gathered all of your information you are going to report your evidence using google slides.
  6. Lastly, create your own emoji.  What does your emoji mean? How do you think adults/kids would use your “new” emoji in the “texting” world.
