Kindergarten Newsletter

February 11th-14th

Hello Parents!  This week we are starting Unit 5 in ELA and will learn and read stories all about animals. We will learn new vocabulary words as well as practicing the skill of recognizing the story structure and making and confirming predictions. In grammar we will be able to tell the naming and telling part of a sentence as well as learning about action words. There are no spelling words this week since it is a short week.

In religion, we will learn about Saint Valentine and the reason for celebrating Valentine’s Day.

In math, we will have our Chapter 4 Math test on Wednesday. I will send a review sheet home for this test.

In science, we will continue learning about forces such as push and pulls.

In social studies we will learn about President’s Day and the reason why we celebrate it.

 

Our class will have their first book report due when we come back from break on February 26th. If it is late, points will be deducted. Please have your child complete the book report on their own. That includes them drawing and writing on their own. Please do not do your child’s report for them so they can prepare for first grade.

Reminders:

  1. Our class mom’s are bringing in treats for the students on Valentine’s Day on Thursday. We will have a little celebration in our classroom with the children only. If you wish to send anything in for Valentine’s Day please contact our class moms.
  2. Thursday, February 14th is a $2.00 NUT Day.
  3. Friday, February 15th, school is closed for Professional Development.
  4. Mid-Winter Recess: School closed through February 24th.

Ms. Isola’s Class HW 1/22-1/25

January 22nd-25th

Hello Parents! In ELA, we will learn the strategy: summarize as we read different stories. We will also practice the skill of making inferences while we read. The students will continue learning new vocabulary words and will be able to define the words we learn each day. There will be a spelling test on Friday.

In Religion, we will be researching different Saints and learning about how Saints were God’s helpers on Earth long ago.

In Math, we will begin Chapter 5 and will learn about number to 31. Some vocabulary that we will be discussing in class will be: before, after, between, less than, equal to, greater than and estimate.  

In Science, we will begin creating models of the planets that the students have created with their group. This will be a hands-on activity for the children and will teach them the importance of working in groups.

In Social Studies we will continue to learn about conflict and solution and how we can use it among our friends and family.

 

The Hall of Science Trip is this Thursday. Please be sure to send permissions slip in/money for trip if you haven’t already. Please send your child in with gym clothes attire only.

 

Reminders:

  • Sunday, January 27th: There will be an opening Mass at 9:30am to start off Catholic Schools Week. Followed by an Open House from 10:30am-12:30pm. Also there will be a Scholastic Book Fair from 10:30am-12:30pm.

 

  1. Monday, January 28th: Crazy Hair Day with uniform. Parents are welcome to visit our class on Monday from 9:05 am – 9:55 am. The children will be invited to go to the Book Fair during the day at 8:30 am- 8:45 am. Parents are welcome to meet their child at the Book Fair and help them buy a book of their choice. If you’d like your child to participate please send in money in a sealed envelope labeled “Scholastic Book Fair” and I will hand it out to the children.
  2. Tuesday, January 29th: Crazy Hat with Uniform Day.
  3. Wednesday, January 30th: Wear your favorite sports team jersey with uniform gym pants.
  4. Thursday, January 31st: Spirit Day!
  5. Friday February 1st: Teacher Switch Day! Ms. Martin will be teaching our class for period 1 and 2.

Kindergarten Newsletter

January 14th-17th

Hello Parents! In ELA, we will make predictions about what will happen in a story based on the title and illustration. We will also practice summarizing stories. We will also practice isolating and identifying initial sounds in words. There will be a spelling test on Thursday.

In Religion, we continue learning about how the Saints are God’s helpers and how we can act like Saints. We will also begin our in-class Saint Project.

In Math, we will have our Chapter 4 test on Wednesday on counting objects and number patterns. Our math test will be on Wednesday.  

In Science, we will begin planning for our Invention Convention Project which will be on creating our own planet. The students are working together in their groups to create their own planet as a team.

In Social Studies we will learn about conflict and solution and how we can use it in our life.

Please send in the permission slip for the Hall of Science Trip by January 17th if you did not send it in yet.

 

Reminders:

  • On Tuesday, January 15th it is Kindergartens turn to send in baked goods for the Bake Sale at lunch! It can be baked goods or store bought goods. Please leave items in office in the morning.

 

  1. School is closed on Friday January 18th because it is a Professional Day.
  2. School is closed on Monday, January 21st for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
  3. Our class trip is on January 24th to the Hall of Science.
