Dear Pre-K Family,

Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten!

I am THRILLED to be your teacher! Its going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures and I cant wait to see what this year has in store for us. I want to know ALL about you, but first Im going to tell you a few things about me. Its amazing being a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. I cant imagine doing anything else. This is my first year at St. Helens but, have been teaching Pre-K for three years and I absolutely love it!!! It is my mission to instill a love for learning in my students. I attempt to teach with a passion so that my students develop a desire to become life-long learners.

My assistant and I are looking forward to working with you and your child as we teach them to reach for the stars. Our goal for this year is to help your child grow, develop, and learn so many new concepts with their classmates. In the classroom, we will work on self-help skills, small and large motor skills, letter and number recognition, communication, and several other cognitive and social skills. We will cover these areas using a variety of methods to ensure that learning is always fun and interesting for your child.

This is the year for our learners to shine brightly in our classroom. It will be a year of magical wonder and amazing growth for your little star. I am thrilled that your child will be in my class this year. Communication is the key to your childs success and to a great parent/teacher relationship. I encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to our pre-kindergarten adventure with your child, and family.

Dear parents,

This morning the children had music. They love music on Tuesdays!

The children listened to the story La Tortuga today. We spoke about how the word Tortuga in Spanish means turtle. After listening to the book the children were asked several questions:

  1. What do you know about La Tortuga?
  2. What did the children want to do with La Tortuga?
  3. How did La Tortuga trick the children?
  4. Why did the children go back to find La Tortuga the next day?

They did a wonderful job with this 🙂

Since we are talking about firefighters being a community helper, for homework the children have a community helper pattern worksheet.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Dear parents,

Today we learned how to sort pictures that are hot and cold. The children learned that sorting means to group like things together. We know we can sort by shape, color, size, etc.

We played an interactive game on the smart board sorting different items that are hot and cold.

The children also did some sorting worksheets 🙂

The children also learned the letter C.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

This morning we reviewed the letters A and B.  We also reviewed what a circle is and some things that might be shaped like a circle.

The children learned about community helpers.  They learned that a community helper are groups of people who help in our neighborhoods.  We looked at Ms. C’s community helper wall to identify some different community helpers in our neighborhood.

The children listened to the book  Whose Hands Are These?  A community helper guessing book by: Miranda Paul.

The children drew what kind of community helper they want to be when they grow up.

Tomorrow is gym. Please wear sneakers 🙂

Show and tell is tomorrow.  Draw, print out a picture, or bring something in that is orange or shaped like a circle.

Have a great day!
